Holidays

Who hasn’t seen angel Halloween costumes over and over? This heavenly being is often recreated for Halloween; but this year why not the angel more creativity. No need to do the overdone biblical version of the angel with its standard golden halo and crispy white feather wings. No, this year you can go mean or nice with your angel halloween costumes and shake things up a bit. Even though the angel is a common costume, it doesn’t mean you can’t come up with a newer and much improved version of this favored Halloween costume.

Before you head out to the store looking for your set of feather wings, take some time to plan out the details of what could make this year’s angel Halloween costumes seem more unique than year’s past. What colors will you choose? Will your angel come directly out of the bible, or will it be something less serious and more playful?

Many cultures across the world have different ideas on what the angel actually looks like. By doing some upfront research into the history of angels, you can come up with angel Halloween costumes that are more authentic looking. But keep in mind that your angel costume doesn’t have to follow any historical format at all; on the contrary, this is Halloween, you can go all out with your creativity!

When thinking about the specifics of your angel costume keep in mind the three basic components: feather wings, halo (usually a golden halo), and a robe (usually white). These three components are a guide and are in no ways meant to restrict you in designing your adult Halloween costumes this year. Your angel can have a little more grit; it can even be downright devious. And who says the robe needs to be white; you could add some drama through color if you want.

Add to the basics! Angel Halloween costumes do not have to be uniform. If you are not into the golden halo, try a different color, or a wreath of ivy or some other material. Check the bargain bin at your local craft store for a cheap alternative. Traditionally, feather wings are usually used. If you prefer, construct wings out of something else, or forgo the downy white feathers for black, red, or purple ones.

Adding your own special embellishments can also help you personalize your angel Halloween costumes. If you are a bible toting angel, maybe your robe has scriptures written all over. If you are a ‘bad’ angel, maybe you carry a pitch fork to go with your bloody red halo. You can adjust your angel costume to put people in the mind of heaven, or hel,l if you’d like.

Think about having a little extra fun this Halloween by choosing angel Halloween costumes of an opposing nature for you and a friend. One person can put the golden halo on atop a curly blond wig donning a glowing white robe; the other partner can play the opposite and wear a costume that is more Lucifer inspired. To really go all out, consider adding a touch of role play by pretending to be arch enemies at any parties attended together, you’ll garner lots of attention and make for a more fun evening.

So a lot of people may feel like the angel Halloween costumes are overdone. I say, this doesn’t have to be the case if the costume is infused with a little extra creativity. Add things that make the costume your own and people are sure to take notice. It doesn’t matter whether you like your angel Halloween costumes to be the nice version or the not so nice version; either way you can have fun designing it and making it your own. The Pacific had been crossed many times and most of the lands around it had been explored before the world knew there was an inhabited archipelago in its very center.

The first white man to discover the islands was Captain James Cook in 1778. He called them the Sandwich Islands, after the Earl of Sandwich. Captain Cook, making his first landing on the verdant island of Kauai, found the islands populated by about 300,000 natives. They were Polynesian in origin, and among the most advanced of all the Polynesians. The islands were ruled by four warring native kings.

About 30 years later, the local wars ended with all the islands united under King Kamehameha I, the wisest and most enlightened of the native rulers of Hawaii. He welcomed other lands, promoted trade and commerce. Traders from abroad brought goods for the from far lands and bought the exotic products of Hawaii in return. Unfortunately they also brought diseases for which the isolated Polynesian People had no natural immunity.

Within 100 years the native population had dropped to 50,000. In the meantime the trends which were to most the Hawaiian Islands one of the Polyglot regions in the world in ethnic origin, had started. First came the missionaries, from New England. They found native people ready to embrace a new religion, and set about converting Hawaii to Christianity.

They also saw in Hawaii opportunities for business. They established small firms to trade with the rest of the world. They succeeded so well that the children of the missionaries are now the chief directors and owners of Hawaii’s great companies, operating huge plantations and far-flung trading companies.

With the dwindling of the native population through the ravages of disease and the development of Hawaii’s plantation fields, field labor was recruited from other lands. The first groups were Chinese. Japanese, Koreans, Filipinos followed. Puerto Ricans, Germans, and Portuguese came later.

During this period Hawaii was a monarchy. Toward the end of the nineteenth century agitation for annexation to the United States began. For a brief period the islands were a republic. Annexation was accomplished in 1898, and in 1900 Hawaii became a Territory of the United States, under a governor named Sanford P. Dole. At that time two-thirds of the population were foreign-born aliens, most of them uneducated Orientals.

Impetus to the transition between an Oriental crossroads community and an integrated American society was given by the sudden impact of World War II, the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, the establishment of the islands as one of the great military bases for the war and a staging ground for the whole Pacific Campaign.

It brought to the islands many thousands of fighting men to man the installations, and hundreds of thousands more who stopped briefly in the islands in transit between the distant fighting fronts and home areas. With the war’s end many stationed in the islands stayed to work and live; others who had sampled the benign climate and glimpsed the exotic charm of the islands, returned. With the war’s end the fighting bases became great permanent military installations with a military personnel of about 50,000.

Hawaii has a very heterogeneous population with Americans of Polynesian, Asian, European, and African extraction, immigration to Hawaii still continues. Most of the newcomers are young people. Hawaii’s varied population is reflected in the food specialties which are served. These include poi, a paste made from taro root; roast pig and coconut. The islands have superb fruits; some of them, like the passion fruit, are quite rare. Others are guava, papaya, pineapple. There are also native nuts that are unusual. All are served at the popular luau feast.

Adult Halloween costumes are worn by many adults who are still in touch with their inner child. These are people who don?t mind joining in to celebrate Halloween with the rest of the kids. The question arises for every adult at Halloween: Do I dress up this year or not? If the answer is yes, you\’ll find that there are many adult Halloween costumes to choose from. Your first stop, however, will be in determining whether or not you\’ve got the nerve to put your costume on along-side all the children.

The company you keep might help you decide this all-important, yearly question. Do you have a regular tradition of picking out an outfit with your best bud to wear at their Halloween get together? If so the answer is easy.

Where will you be seen in your costume, and how many times will you have to wear your tights and wig around Halloween? Some people dress up every chance they get, wearing the latest trendy adult Halloween costumes to work, school, and holiday parties. If you have plenty of places to don your once a year look, then by all means, dive right in.

Now you might not want to wear your adult Halloween costumes to work if the environment is extremely professional. To be on the safe side, check to see if it\’s okay before wearing anything outrageous when Halloween comes. If it turns out you can wear your costume to work, remember it is still your job. This means that the women?s costumes shouldn\’t show their breasts, this isn\’t appropriate office wear. And while it?s not as much of a problem, men should use discretion as well.

But those men still better be on the lookout for any mix-messages his costume might be sending. Men should stay away from adult Halloween costumes that have bad language or improper images. These types of men\’s costumes should be saved for after work affairs.

If you work in a cubicle at work, it may be a good idea to keep your adult Halloween costumes as small and non-cumbersome as possible. You don\’t even have to put on the whole costume; a portion can do the job until you get off work and are ready to wear the rest. A headband with bunny or mouse ears could be all the adult Halloween costumes you\’ll need.

This same principal can be applied to Halloween parties. If you must, ask your host or hostess who will be in attendance. Even if the gathering was purely adults in previous years. You never know when someone may bring along little Johnny or Susie this year because no sitter was available.

Take steps to make sure this isn\’t another year where you choose to wear some obtrusive clown suit to a party where no one else has bothered to change out of street clothes. Adult Halloween costumes are better when worn to an actual costume party. To avoid any of this, call ahead with questions if you have to; or you could just do your thing without a worry for what another may think!

Adult Halloween costumes can be just as much fun as any children costumes. Choose something that fits your personality, yet is appropriate for who will see you. Following a few simple tips can help streamline your holiday and prevent you from falling into any social Halloween traps. Have fun with adult Halloween costumes, but do so responsibly. Edited by Glinda Zuladra

Jump to it and dress up with Adult Halloween Costumes this season. Pick up fabulous Halloween Costumes that will win\’em all over.

Men and women around the world celebrate International Women\’s Day on March 8th. It is a day when both sexes recognize the social, political, and economic achievements of women as well as the current challenges females face. The holiday is especially important to Russian citizens.

In 1913, the women of Russia observed International Women\’s Day for the first time. Female activists joined together to protest World War I and by 1914 women from other European countries added their voices to the protests in an expression of women\’s solidarity.

These initial protests were only the beginning. On March 8, 1917, Russian women began striking \”for bread and peace\” in response to the deaths of over 2 million Russian soldiers in World War I. Their voices helped pave the way for the Czar\’s abdication and the leaders that followed agreed to grant Russian women the right to vote. Russian feminist Alexandra Kollontai came to power in the following years and in addition to championing women\’s rights and serving as the world\’s first female ambassador, she also persuaded Lenin to declare International Women\’s a Day a public holiday in the Soviet Union.

Since 1965, International Women\’s Day has been a non-working holiday in Russia. Friends, family, and co-workers celebrate together and banks, schools, and most businesses are closed for the day.

Over the years, International Women\’s Day lost its feminist edge and has become more a celebration of women in general. Today, the holiday is a hybrid between Mother\’s Day and Valentine\’s Day with the country honoring traditional qualities like motherhood, beauty, and femininity. Flowers and chocolates are the most common gifts men bestow upon women, though fragrances and cosmetics are also acceptable. It is also customary for husbands to treat their wives to breakfast in bed and take on all of the housework for one day. All women receive recognition on International Women\’s Day, not just mothers, spouses, or sweethearts.

Despite its shift in focus, International Women\’s Day is an important holiday in Russia and will continue to be significant for many years. This year, the holiday falls on Monday, March 8th and men and women around the world will celebrate women and their achievements.
