3. Tips For Winter Landscaping

from:

Landscaping can mostly be done through all seasons but winter landscaping has to be done by keeping a few things in mind. When the winter season arrives, it becomes very important to complete landscaping projects in order to keep your garden safe and protected from the sometime harsh and dormant winter months. If you are looking forward to seeing a beautiful view in your garden with colorful flowers and large shady trees it is important that you start preparing trees, homes, shrubs so that they can turn healthy at springtime.

It is a common belief in people that the grass stops growing during the winter season. During the winter season the roots of the plants grow deeper and fall is perhaps the best time to fertilize and reseed your garden. If you hold a second round of fertilizing during the end of winter season you will be able to keep the yard strong and winterized during the times of snow and cold.

If your garden has some patches where there is no grass or plants growing then early autumn is the best time to reseed or sod. Adding sod will not only increase the beauty of your garden but will make it looks presentable as well. Till the time summers approach your garden will be full of flowers and other beautiful plants. If you want to establish a sod you will have to moisten it and lay it for the first week, after that you will have to water it as per the requirement from time to time for one week. Laying sod in humid and hot season will make it dry and it will become difficult to establish its roots. You can take advice from a recognized grower so that you can make the best choice. Also make sure that the sod you implant has plants that will fit the climatic conditions around your locality. The sod must not be dry as it will lose more moisture in coming days and it will become difficult for you to establish it. Also when you buy a sod you must ensure that it is not warm and has been on the pallet for longer than 2 days.

Pruning is very important to be done in the spring so you have to make all the preparations in the winter season itself. Pruning can be carried out on dormant plants. Pruning in summer time helps in healthy growth of the plants and seeds. Late pruning will hamper the growth and the new flowers and plants will die during the frost. So the right time for pruning is spring season if you do not want your seeds to be destroyed or killed later on.
